Pedro Sánchez, the Prime Minister of Spain, may not have been a household name last week, but he certainly is after almost 50,000 migrants crossed the Morocco-Ceuta border on Thursday. Shocking scenes of masses of young men flooding the city have been all over the internet, emphasising the flimsiness of Europe’s borders; many people’s fears of the continent being overwhelmed by huge numbers of fighting-age men finally realised.

On X Sánchez said that the “Government of Spain is fully committed to providing an immediate response to the situation in Ceuta”. But Adam Wren, Director of The Centre for Justice Policy, summed up the situation well when he reposted Sánchez with the comment “Oh no, I provided incentives and people have responded to them”. Sánchez, after all, was the one to grant the largest migrant amnesty in European history. With the policy starting in April this year, “by mid-June 360,000 people out of 900,000 applications had been granted provisional residency permits as their claims were processed.”

Sánchez is about as left-wing as it gets; the Secretary-General of the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party and the ninth president of Socialist International, who has come out with nonsense such as “Spain is the daughter of migration, it won’t be the mother of discrimination”…

… and rather more sinister warnings about “the international ultraright” (projection alert: he was at a conference of the international ultraleft!):

Sánchez issued these dramatic statements at the “Global Progressive Mobilisation” (GPM) conference in Barcelona in April this year, whose aim was to unite “the World’s Progressive Forces” and offer “a necessary alternative to conservative and far-right forces.”

Leaving aside its somewhat alarming nature, the event was informative as it highlighted global alliances most voters have no idea about.

• David Lammy, the UK’s then-Deputy Prime Minister, who seemed extremely pleased to see Sánchez (on Instagram he posted a photo of their meeting accompanied with Justin Bieber music)

Understandably, there’s been a lot of interest in Andy Burnham’s new Director of Political Strategy, Matthew McGregor, who was the Director of Campaigns and Communications for Hope Not Hate between 2018-21 and since then Chief Executive Officer for 38 Degrees, a ghastly left-wing pressure group (with a charitable wing).

Ahead of his first day in Number 10, McGregor deleted his X account; clearly he doesn’t want the media trawling through his old posts. However, his digital footprint is far from gone. On LinkedIn you can read McGregor’s “favourite books” for 2025, including How to Defeat the Far Right by Nick Lowles, whom McGregor calls “a brilliant writer to go along with his unique and vital antifascist organising”, as well as confirmation that he wants a wealth tax:

And that’s not all. Various interviews exist with McGregor on YouTube, as recent as in November 2025 when he appeared on Over the Top Under the Radar, a podcast produced by a “Black-owned production company” that values “authenticity and diversity”:

Last week Lisa Nandy, the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, announced that she and her department would be leaving X.

You could say this isn’t that big a deal in itself. But we should worry when multiple politicians express similar sentiment at the same time. Parallel announcements normally mean we are being primed for something eg legislation or an initiative (leaving aside the Labour Party’s ghastly new plan to increase the prominence of state-approved news).

Last month, in case you missed it, the Mayor of London and co-Chair of C40 Cities, an unelected organisation funded by George Soros’s Open Society Foundations among others, launched “City Climate Facts”, a new initiative that “builds on the Mayor of London’s work leading the global fightback against disinformation”.

Opening London Climate Action Week, Khan promised “coordinated action around the world to tackle the growing scourge of climate disinformation.”

According to a C40 Cities press release, the initiative will “equip mayors with the tools, evidence and support needed to lead climate action with confidence” and “tackle the growing threat of climate disinformation and rebuild public trust in an increasingly polluted online information environment.”

It has been launched by C40 Cities with the support of UN Special Adviser on Climate Action and Just Transition Selwin Hart”. How kind!

(Incidentally, I keep seeing the phrase “Just Transition” everywhere. What a load of bollocks!)

It’s been just over a week since the Government announced plans to introduce digital ID cards. According to a press release from Number 10, “This initiative builds on the government’s crackdown on illegal working and its mission to control borders as part of the Plan for Change.”

What crackdown? You may wonder… Never mind the idea that digital ID will prevent illegal working.

This justification is clearly ridiculous when you look at the thousands of UK charities and organisations being allowed to promote open borders. Many of these have deep pockets and are hardly/ unknown about by most voters - making it much easier for them to push their own political agendas through.

Today I wanted to expand on the subject, delving into the grants of The Joseph Rowntree Reform Trust (JRRT) - one of several foundations linked to Joseph Rowntree (1836-1925).

To add a bit of historical context (in case needed), Rowntree was an English Quaker philanthropist and chocolatier at the family business “Rowntree’s” (now owned by Nestlé).

Like other successful Quakers (such as the Cadburys), Rowntree used his business wealth for many charitable causes. I don’t doubt that he was an impressive and honourable man who changed people’s lives for the better.

Last month, you may remember the Met Police raided a Quaker meeting house in Westminster, causing huge uproar.

Over 20 uniformed police, some equipped with tasers, entered and arrested six female members of the activist group Youth Demand who had gathered there. They were arrested on suspicion to cause a public nuisance, under the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Act 2022 and the Public Order Act 2023, but have since been released on bail (apart from one who was released and will face no further action).

On the surface of it, the police raid might appear excessive and authoritarian. Even the most hardened on the Right could find themselves agreeing with George Monbiot in the Guardian, who criticised the police’s heavy handedness, recounting how “six women were having tea and biscuits” before their arrests.

My own view, however, is that it’s actually good that Quakers have had some heat on them. During my research on political funding, Quakers often turn up, undermining our democracy and subsidising causes that harm British interests. Too often their places of ‘worship’ are used for hard-Left activities, and Quakers’ ‘religious’ beliefs sound more like political positions.

To give you an example, Friends House, the central offices of Quakers in Britain, hosts an annual ‘Reparations Conference’ which was attended last year by the MPs Diane Abbott, Bell Ribeiro-Addy and Clive Lewis.

These MPs happen to be part of the All Party-Parliamentary Group on Afrikan Reparations, which receives £10,501-£12,000 from Friends House, as well as £15,001-£16,500 from Rockefeller Philanthropy. It’s all rather mysterious:

In this article, I wanted to introduce readers to The Barrow Cadbury Trust - which regularly comes up when I am researching left-wing funding networks.

The Trust has enormous amounts of money at its disposal. Indeed, from 2012 to October last year it handed out over £43 million in grants, according to 360 Giving Data:

The Barrow Cadbury Trust was founded by two Quakers, Barrow and Geraldine Cadbury - the former being the grandson of John Cadbury, founder of the Cadbury chocolate business (hence why the Trust has such wealth).

Its preoccupations reflect those of Quakers more generally, one of the most left-wing cohorts of Western society. Just take a look at these images below from British Quakers’ Instagram feed, which could have been posted by a Momentum activist:
