Killers and rapists we should have deported
Britons have been murdered in horrendous ways thanks to our failed asylum system
Last week protestors in Peckham blocked the transfer of asylum seekers from a London hotel to the Bibby Stockholm barge.
They slashed a coach’s wheels and assaulted officers. A total of 45 were arrested by the end.
Demonstrators chanted “no borders, no nations, stop deportations”, among other virtuous-sounding slogans.
The irony is that this is effectively the policy we have in the UK, which has had deadly consequences for Brits (read on to see how).
Of course, there are genuine asylum seekers, who desperately need help and compassion.
But this is all the more reason for the authorities to be able incredibly careful about who arrives in the country and firm when they need to be deported. The most vulnerable can end up in the same accommodation as very dangerous people.
To illustrate this point, here is a list of people the protesters would have indiscriminately defended - who are now in our prisons and psychiatric hospitals:
Cosmin-Nicolae Vasioiu
Nationality: Romanian
Crime: Raped a woman in a cemetery who had been walking home from a night out
Previous convictions: Committed a similar rape while living in Switzerland
Sentence: 18 years in prison
Authority failures:
Vasioiu didn’t apply for settled status after Brexit and the authorities forgot he was here.
Ahmed Ali Alid
Nationality: Moroccan
Crime: Murdered 70-year-old Terence Carney and attempted to murder his housemate, Javed Nouri, an Iranian asylum. Assaulted an Emergency Worker after attacking two police officers while in custody.
Sentence: Life sentence
Authority failures:
Alid was denied asylum in Italy, Germany and Spain, but was able to stay in Britain for three years while his asylum claim was processed.
During those three years he lived in a hotel in Hull followed by state-funded accommodation.
His housemate Nouri alerted the police and Home Office that Alid was dangerous. He told them that Alid was an “extreme Muslim” who would sit in the kitchen with a knife, and gave him “bad looks” for converting to Christianity.
Nouri also saw Alid laughing at coverage of the October 7 Hamas attacks.
The authorities told Nouri that no further action would be taken as Alid had not committed an offence.
2022:
Maher Maaroufe
Nationality: Tunisian
Crime: Stabbed his 19-year-old student girlfriend to death, leaving her almost decapitated. Also pleaded guilty to a charge of assault by beating an emergency worker.
Sentence: Manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility (schizoaffective disorder)
Sentence: Hospital order without limit of time
Authority failures:
Maaroufe was served with a deportation notice as an over-stayer on August 14, 2019, but the authorities never made sure that he left the country.
Shahin Darvish-Narenjbon
Nationality: Iranian
Crime: Killed his 87-year-old “surrogate grandmother”, Brenda Blainey, in "circumstances of appalling brutality". Manslaughter by reason of diminished responsibility.
Sentence: Detained indefinitely in a psychiatric hospital
Authority failures:
Darvish-Narenjbon was in the UK illegally. He had previously been refused asylum and lost an appeal for it.
Lawangeen Abdulrahimzai
Nationality: Afghanistan
Crime: Murdered 21-year-old Thomas Roberts
Previous convictions: Murdered two people with a Kalashnikov assault rifle in Serbia
Sentence: Minimum term of 29 years in prison
Authority failures:
Flagged to the Home Office as a potential terrorist a year earlier - its Prevent anti-terrorism task group told he was “susceptible to terrorism”.
UK law enforcement authorities didn’t pick up that he was a fugitive from murder charges in Serbia.
He duped officials into believing he was 14 (six years younger then his actual age at the time of the murder) and placed into foster care.
Reports suggest police were warned seven times he had been carrying a knife before he murdered 21-year-old Thomas Roberts, who’d acted as a “peacemaker” in an argument between Abdulrahimzai and his friend.
2020
Eltiona Skana
Nationality: Albanian
Crime: Slit the throat of Emily Jones, 7, as she played in a park. Manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility. Put on trial for murder, which she was cleared of.
Sentence: A minimum of 10 years and eight months.
Authority failures:
Previously asylum despite the Home Office being told she admitted lying about being a victim of sexual exploitation in her application to boost her chances of staying in the UK.
Long history of mental illness and had not been taking her anti-psychotic medicine; no one checking.
Khairi Saadallah
Nationality: Libyan
Crime: Murdered three men in a park in Reading
Sentence: Whole-life sentence
Previous convictions: Repeated prison spells
Authority failures:
Wasn't deported due to unsafe conditions in Libya
Previous convictions for offences, including violence and possession of a knife.
Repeated spells in prison (2015-2020)
“Triaged” four times by M15 between late 2017 and April 2019, resulting in a “lead” investigation over intelligence he wanted to return to Libya to join ISIS.
Dozens of intelligence reports showing his pattern of fighting, threats to staff, self-harming and suspected drug use, along with references to extremism.
Spent time in jail with Islamic extremists (preacher Omar Brooks)
Told prison staff he was a member of Islamic state and wanted to “blow up Britain”
Referred to Prevent four times
More here.
Azam Mangori
Nationality: Iraqi Kurd
Crime: Killed 32-year-old woman in his flat above a kebab shop in Exeter Dismembered her
Sentence: Jailed for at least 20 years
Authority failings:
Denied asylum in December 2018 but not deported.
Abdul Nishat
Nationality: Afghan
Crime: Abducted and attempted to rape woman as she walked home after night out in Leeds
Sentence: Jailed for over 10 years
Samiulahaq Akbari
Nationality: Afghan
Crime: Attempted murder. Tried to murder a complete stranger while 'fuelled' by a desire to kill English people. Swung at one victim (unharmed, remarkably) with a 10-inch kitchen knife Also pulled knife on two other men.
