The things such people write are so obviously utter nonsense, I cannot understand how they hold down any job, while the greatest scandal surely is that taxpayer or charitable money goes to them.
This is happening at a time when country like China simply and wisely invests a lot in scientific research. Meanwhile, the government budget for 'research' starves scientific research, but throws it away on utterly worthless garbage.
Every member of the board of the misnamed "British Academy" needs to clear their desk today and never come back. The Chair should return their last year's salary or be charged with fraud. The civil servant who authorises these grants at "Department of Research and Innovation" or whatever its called today should dismissed for gross misconduct and misuse of public funds (no accrued pension rights or compensation for loss of office.) This organisation is a farce, a gravy train for intellectual grifters. Is there a minister who is accountable? Sack whoever appointed them.
After the kerfuffle at Cambridge, this doesn't surprise me at all. Defund all these ridiculously captured institutions - make them work for their money.
What utter nonsense, no wonder the country is in such a poor financial state, there is bucket loads of taxpayers cash swilling about that should never be, I bet the people handing the cash out wouldn't fund it with their own money, but they don't care its not their money which has always been a problem, the government will try and justify the need to raise taxes further "to support our public services blah blah blah" and whether they can is irrelevant because they will raise them anyhow. Thanks for exposing this Charlotte, hopefully one day we will have an incoming government who will stop all this wastage and say "no more" until we are all paying minimum taxes and the economy can afford a bit of nonsense, today we certainly cannot.
