Taxpayer-funded Job of the Week: Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Coordinator at the V&A
£37,512 per annum is being offered to the right candidate
Please consider a paid subscription if you would like to support my Woke Waste series. I like to keep as many posts free as possible to grow public awareness, but am increasingly reliant on paid subscriptions as I cut down on other work. To add, I also don’t want to take funding so as to retain my independence, so that when a wokey asks me “WHO FUNDS YOU?” I can reply “the people!”
Thanks for all your support so far.
Every now and then I like to flag wonderful taxpayer-funded opportunities to my readers.
You may remember in April I highlighted this post below, made all the more fabulous due to the fact that not one, but TWO, jobs were advertised for gay porn researchers:
Today I am delighted to share the V&A’s advert for an “Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Coordinator” - to support its “Collaborative Doctoral Partnerships Scheme” (CDP).
The CDP scheme is one of many funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) to supply the UK with the best and brightest in PhD students.
A total of “15 institutions and consortia have been awarded funding” according to the V&A. Some more bumf here:
“AHRC will provide funding for 156 doctoral studentships through the 15 CDP4 awards over the next three academic years. The first cohort is set to begin their studies in October 2024.”
The V&A’s CDP projects include:
“Second life: understanding deterioration of recycled plastics in Museum collections” – Imperial College London
“Visualising Networks and Decolonising Collecting: Rediscovering the Acquisition History of the V&A Asia Collection, 1852-2023” – University College London (UCL)
UCL’s advert has now closed, but Imperial’s is opened and makes clear who it wants to examine “the deterioration of recycled plastics” (don't all rush at once!):
“We particularly welcome applications from Black, Asian, Minority, Ethnic (BAME) backgrounds as they are currently underrepresented at this level in this area.”
On a job description, the V&A says its EDI coordinator should ideally have “Knowledge of EDI agendas at a national level” and, listed as desirable, is an “interest in raising awareness of the full breadth of equalities issues and the benefits of a diverse culture”.
There are numerous benefits for the successful candidate, ranging from free sanitary products to interest-free loans:
In case you didn’t already realise, the V&A is very committed to diversity:
It is keen to hire “under-represented” talent, who can then search for more “under-represented” talent. In recent times it is also clear that V&A has been concerned about the uneven distribution of men and women in its teams. No wonder, seeing that equality can only ever be measured by even ratios of XX to XY chromosomes, sexualities and skin colours.
Well, what are you waiting for? You could be part of new attempts to decolonise museums!
It all sounds like very urgent stuff, especially as there is in no way enough taxpayer-funded research on “decolonising” things:
I jest, of course; in fact, that reminds me that I still have to finish my spreadsheet listing 300+ studies on the topic…
