It's really important that you don't tar every APPG with the same brush. There are dozens of them and many do great work on a shoestring.

I have been involved with the APPG on Men&Boys Issues for the last few years and have given my time for free. We have raised all sorts of issues, including boys' education and men's health. We helped the process which led to the Men's Health Strategy announced recently.

One way to differentiate between APPGs is to look at how much 'benefits in kind' it receives. If it is 10s of £1000s, perhaps they are worth a closer look to see if they are really a lobby group.

The one you mention reports nearly £100,000. That is far more than the cost of running the group, so there may be an issue.

However, take the APPG on Ticket Abuse. That is run for free. I'm sure you don't mean that this is not valuable (I am not involved).
