We Deserve Better (than not knowing who funds Jeremy Corbyn and Carla Denyer)
Part 2 of Eco Emergency
Who funds Carla Denyer and Jeremy Corbyn?
Both have “We Deserve Better” listed as funders on their Registered Interests. Here’s Corbyn’s:
And Carla Denyer, co-leader of the Green Party:
When I searched for We Deserve Better, I couldn’t find anything on Companies House.
Here’s its website:
… which explains:
More here:
Owen Jones has been something of a poster boy:
Here he is promoting the group in The Guardian:
In March this year Labour List reported:
The group is raising money to kickstart a campaign fund, which will be used to back “socialist candidates”, regardless of party affiliation, in order to support “transformative policies”. These include “taxing the rich to fund public services, backing public ownership, tackling the climate crisis and opposing war crimes in Gaza”.
The group’s committee includes "Hilary Schan is the former Co-Chair of Momentum and Dr Carl Walker, who “led on the launch of Psychologists Against Austerity”.
Back to Companies House…
Although I couldn’t find “We Deserve Better” on Companies House, I looked up the address registered by Denyer and Corbyn: Pelican House, 144 Cambridge Heath Rd, London E1 5QJ.
It comes across a bit like “left-wing Tufton Street” with companies registered to it such as:
The 4 Day Week campaign:
which the campaign group Compass also advocates for (see my last piece below - on its calls for a shorter working week):
There’s also the London Renters’ Union:
And many more:
Pelican House, 144 Cambridge Heath Rd, London E1 5QJ is also the address of a campaign group titled “Green New Deal Rising”:
… protestors from Green New Deal Rising recently stormed up to Rachel Reeves, the Chancellor, to demand “a tax on extreme wealth”:
It’s not obvious why they felt the need to do this seeing as, according to Green New Deal Rising’s own social media output, the group managed to get MPs elected:
In other words, they have a voice in Parliament. Several, in fact.
The boast - about new MPs - sounds like We Deserve better rejoicing over the nine progressive MPs, including Corbyn, being elected:
Does this mean that “We Deserve Better” has been rebranded “Green New Deal Rising”? It would make sense given the amount Jeremy Corbyn and Carla Denyer promote the group:
It has also endorsed Zarah Sultana:
And you can find others on its feed, such as Apsana Begum MP and Clive Lewis MP:
It’s hard to join up the dots with their registered interests, although there are some parallels. For instance, Apsana Begum has a company in her own name - “Apsana Begum Ltd”:
Somewhat similar to Zarah Sultana (or should we say ‘Zarah Sultana Campaigns Ltd’):
Sultana’s address particularly interested me as I have spotted it elsewhere, such as under Richard Burgon Campaigns Ltd on Companies House:
Here are others registered to 71-75 Shelton Street:
Led by Donkeys
Animal Welfare Party
Burning Pink (Roger Hallam - Extinction Rebellion founder’s old party)
Climate Week (run by Socialist Worker).
Socialist Worker
EU Today Limited
Exit Hate Trust
Green Acorn Energy
Richard Burgess MP
(I will write more about the address soon - in a separate article).
Adrian Ramsay and Sian Berry, part of the nine new progressive MPs who were elected, both have Adam Management Holdings Ltd listed as funders (Ramsay’s followed by Berry’s below):
To add, I don’t know if these are coincidences; I am just looking for overlaps, as well as find out whether Green New Deal Rising is the new name for We Deserve Better.
One of my threads was rather amusing to Ellen Gibson, Head of Electoral + Organising at Green New Deal Rising, though:
Same for Madeleine Greenhalgh, another organiser within the group:
Who didn’t even know the answer to my question…
I’m not surprised - because most of these activists have no idea what they’re up to. Which is why increasing numbers of them are going to prison:

At the moment I have been in the thick of “net zero/ green research” - while maintaining Woke Waste at the same time. It’s all part of the same phenomenon (unknown forces in our democracy/ ideologies people didn’t vote for). I am trying to extricate all of this - but it’s a mammoth job, and essentially I need more paid subscriptions to keep going (although paid subscriptions have really been going up, so thank you so much!). I am keeping this content off paywall because I want as many people as possible to know about all this green stuff (lots more to come). But, without sounding like Oliver Twist, it means I take my eye off commercial work to give it my all - so am ever-more reliant on Substack moola. You will get bang for your buck in return. Thank you everyone for reading and supporting!
This Green New Deal Rising looks far too well staffed and professional to be a 'UK left' operation. Looks more like a franchise from the USA in style and tone.
Fom influencewatch: "350.org does not disclose its donors. However, it has admitted to receiving funding from the Tides Foundation, a San Francisco-based donor-advised fund that has funneled hundreds of millions of dollars to liberal groups from donors and foundations wishing to remain anonymous. 31 Groups linked to George Soros and Tom Steyer have also contributed extensively to 350.org."

"What is Green New Deal Rising? What is 350.org?
This programme is being run by two organisations working together: Green New Deal Rising and 350.org. Green New Deal Rising is a movement of young people in the UK campaigning to win a Green New Deal. 350.org is an international organisation focused on supporting movements for climate justice.
These two organisations are providing the funding and staff running the programme."
The reason you won’t find anything about We Deserve Better at Companies House is because, as is declared, it’s an “unincorporated association”, ie not a company, which is an incorporated association. Companies House only registers companies.
What this means is that there’s no “veil of incorporation” between the people behind this organisation and its business; they are one and the same and these individuals are therefore fully responsible, and personally liable, for all its activities, debts etc. This contrasts with the company structure where the “veil of incorporation” descends between the owners (aka shareholders) and the business; they are legally separate and the former aren’t responsible or liable for the latter.
