Have you heard of the Climate and Nature Bill (CAN)?
It’s being proposed by a campaign group titled “Zero Hour”. They describe themselves as “a small team of mostly volunteers, driven by a shared commitment to ensure that the UK Government delivers a serious climate-nature emergency strategy.”
Although a small team, Zero Hour has some famous supporters.
These include Chris Packham:
… and Labour’s famous funder, Dale Vince, whose company Ecotricity “Powered” Zero Hour’s stall at the Labour Party Conference this year:
He was part of a panel discussion with Miatta Fahnbulleh, the Minister for Energy Consumers…
… Tracy Brabin (the Mayor of West Yorkshire), Alex Sobel (the Labour MP for Leeds Central and Headlingley)…
… and Chris Skidmore, the former Conservative Energy Minister:
Skidmore said the Labour Conference was “a change of scene” for him, even though he’s barely distinguishable from Ed Miliband in terms of eco zealotry.
He was the one to sign Net Zero into law (you can read my piece in The Critic on him here).
VIDEO: Some background info on Skidmore from my appearance on The Daily Sceptic:
No idea why he’s blocked me…
Anyway, Zero Hour seems to be having a fair amount of success with its CAN bill:
A Liberal Democrat MP called Dr Roz Savage is leading the CAN movement:
Savage is no ordinary MP, incidentally; she holds four Guinness World Records for ocean rowing and is a United Nations Climate Hero.
In September she supported “Greenpeace’s efforts to ask the UK government to ratify the Global Ocean Treaty to protect 30% of our oceans by 2030”:
She has various supporters in Parliament, such as Jenny Jones, the Green Party peer:
… Caroline Lucas:
… and Labour MP Olivia Blake:
Even if Savage is unsuccessful, I somehow suspect the eco warriors will find some way to get through… There are now so many environmental groups and activists.
Take Simon Oldridge (left), an adviser for Zero Hour:
He’s also the Cofounder of South Devon Primary.
It sounds like a school but it’s actually “a campaign to unite the progressive vote and end 100 years of Conservative MPs”. It backed Caroline Voaden to do this…
… who then backed her friend and colleague Savage:
In recent weeks, South Devon Primary linked to the activist group Compass…
… which was the subject of Eco Emergency Part 1:
This piece was about Clive Lewis hiring an assistant with Compass.
The same Clive Lewis who was part of a Green New Deal APPG with Caroline Lucas and a former long-time employee of Greenpeace:
Moreover, Lewis has been a “Green New Deal” champion (for the group Green New Deal Rising) with Lucas…
… and Olivia Blake (her profile here on the Green New Deal Rising website):
It’s a small world!

At the moment I have been in the thick of “net zero/ green research” - while maintaining Woke Waste at the same time. It’s all part of the same phenomenon (unknown forces in our democracy/ ideologies people didn’t vote for). I am trying to extricate all of this - but it’s a mammoth job, and essentially I need more paid subscriptions to keep going (although paid subscriptions have really been going up, so thank you so much!). I am keeping this content off paywall because I want as many people as possible to know about all this green stuff (lots more to come). But, without sounding like Oliver Twist, it means I take my eye off commercial work to give it my all - so am ever-more reliant on Substack moola. You will get bang for your buck in return. Thank you everyone for reading and supporting!
