The recipients of these grants are indeed reprehensible, but what I want to know is; who is responsible for deciding to give it to them?
I'm guessing that it is difficult enough to extract this extraordinary waste of taxpayer or trust money when we are constantly told borrowing is too high, and that the details of the chain of responsibility is even more opaque, but we need to get MPs to know what is done in their name, and for opposition parties to work on a plan to cure this dreadful flesh-consuming disease.
You've already identified the culprits. They is them, and them is they. The same people who receive the grants make the grants, only displaced somewhat in time, place, and authority. It's basically a revolving door with the volume and rate of rotation powered by tax money (i.e. unlimited). Don't worry about attempting to find justifications (or blame) for spending those grants; there are none available (or accepted), and there's plenty more money where that came from.
Another example, Charlotte, of the completely insane grifting supported by our money! Why can't we withhold any funding? Who individually agreed to it?? No one agreed that this or any other government, Quangos, NGO's or civil (uncivilised) service can spend our money like this! They work for us - Scrap it all!

I just can't believe the amounts he received! Does he have post-grads in his labs, equipment and consumables costs. Where does the money go?
